OXO Good Grips Quick Release Bulb Planter

I’ve long been a fan of OXO’s products, and own quite a few of their garden tools. I have to admit this one disappointed me somewhat. The pros are that it’s a sturdy, well-built planter with a soft-grip handle that’s easy to hold while you’re pushing it into the soil. If the soil you’re working is hard, you’ll need to twist this planter as you push it into the ground. It has an easy-to-reach release handle, which opens the planter, allowing you to drop the soil plug to your desired location. Compared to another planter I own, the release handle is much easier to use.
The con is that the design of this planter allows soil to get wedged into the release area, and it won’t close properly. You’ll push the planter into the ground and lift, only to have the soil plug fall out right away. Frustrating. I had to wipe down the tool every couple of bulbs to prevent this.
If you’re planting just a few bulbs, this tool might come in handy, but if you have a large number of bulbs, try a regular shovel instead.
