Magical Herbalism: The Secret Craft of the Wise

This is one of, if not, thee best magical herb book I have. It teaches you how to prepare the herbs, make oils and incenses, making infusions, how to get the herbs and many other useful objects. It teaches you how to make equipment for the type of magic you want ot perform. This is a great book for begining herbalist to herbalist as experienced as Scott was. Get this book it will help you dearly.
I found that this book is excellent as an overview and introduction to herbal magic. It includes basic theory, practice, some common traditions, forms of mixtures/spells, and simple mixtures/spells for common themes. The book will give the reader a very broad overview from which the reader can determine whether or not he/she would like to study herbal magic in greater depth.
If you are looking for a reference on most of the common herbs and their uses or a book of spells, this is not the best book for your purpose. A better beginning book for referencing herbs is Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs. Cunningham’s Complete Book of Incense, Oils, and Brews is a better choice for beginners seeking mixtures/spells.
Scott Cunningham weaves a spell with Magical Herbalism that is as extraordinary as the man himself. A long-time practitioner of the Metaphysical Arts, Scott’s writing makes you feel as if you’re talking to a caring and wise friend. He gives a plethora of good, solid information as well as tiny journeys beyond words and into imagination. This book has it all, including a table of correspondences for colors and the hours of the night. Cunningham entertains as he educates, bringing the best in magic to his readers with lightness and joy. Magical Herbalism is no different. Both novice and veteran will find something of interest within its covers with extensive information in an easy-to-read format. You can learn how to make amulets, potions, incenses, oils, sachets, simples, infusions and a garden to be used for magical spells and rituals geared to a variety of purposes. This book is a treasure.
Scott Cunningham does it again, providing a simple, easy to understand guide to magickal herbalism. Beginning with an introduction to tools and magick, Cunningham presents a detailed guide to the preparation and use of herbs in magick including making perfumes, oils, insense, amulets and charms.
While I prefer to write my own spells, this book was very helpful in getting me started. But I can only give it three stars because it pales in comparison with his much more detailed “Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs.”
I have an extensive library of both herbal and herbal magick books, and I bought this book on a whim. I’m glad all I wasted was eight dollars. It is extremely limited, and if you are a beginner I suggest: “A Compendium of Herbal Magick” by Paul Beyerl for good information that is easy to read and understand. If all you want is a limited grasp on herbal knowledge it will do, but if you wish to become an accomplished herbalist and wildcrafter there are better buys.
